Subject: On August 25, 1918, the first maritime patrol flight in Canada and the first flight from the Halifax area was carried out by Lt. Richard E. Byrd, USN in a Curtiss HS-2L. The painting depicts Byrd's aircraft as it lifts off from Eastern Passage. The painting is currently on display at the Canada Aviation Museum in Ottawa as part of the international juried show Airflight 2003.
